Why is A Good Edit important? Editing your own work is almost impossible. Your mind knows what you have written, and that is what it sees. It knows what you meant to say. The value of your book is determined by how well it is written, and that includes the editing. Poor editing diminishes the overall readability of your writing. You may lose the reader. You want the reader to see the value of your work. |
When you submit your work to the publisher… Generally, the first few pages will determine whether it is accepted or not. Many an author's work has been tossed aside due to errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, or poor sentence structure. Many times you are not even told why. The reviewer has read many submissions and has a good grasp of what will interest readers. He has seen many manuscripts (sometimes too many), and poor editing will quickly cause him to lose interest. Most will look at the errors and feel the author has not put forward his best effort by the quality of what they see. Many an author's work that may not be as good as yours was accepted because it was well edited. Think about it. How many times have you been reading an article or book and the errors distracted you to the point that you lost the meaning of what you were reading? |
Why wasn't my book accepted? How disappointing to have your work rejected. You worked hard on it and spent many hours sweating over it trying to tell your story, or get your point across. Your work is rejected and you don't even know why. Was your story or work that bad? What was wrong with it? Why wasn't it accepted? What a blow to your creative spirit. How discouraging. After all the creative effort, don't you want someone to review your work to be sure it is presented in the best possible way? Many an author has been turned aside when all they needed was A Good Edit. |
